I came across the question. What is your goal for 2011? My goal is to see Wood's End become an independent Christian Film.  First step... The screen play.

That said... as a Christian, my primary goal is to please Jesus Christ. I wanted the story of Wood's End to do just this and prayed for insight and inspiration throughout the writing process.  Jesus Christ is so very powerful.  We forget this because we live in a material world and at the fall our relationship with our environment and our creator was forever altered.  The supernatural and miracle potential seems distant and we are waylaid by distractions.  "The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity" Luke 8: 14).

This would radically change for one single glimpse into the dark reality of what substitutes for God's love in the preternatural realm.

So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2: 10, 11).  Many that persist in prayer have the experience of seeing into the spiritual realm.

Since becoming a Christian at twenty three, with or without the book, my life goal is very much what it has always been. Have I always succeeded. No, I haven't. Maturity in Christ is a life-process and we don't fully arrive until we get to heaven.  We move forward and we move back and we move forward again.  And... our heavenly Father is always there calling us to repentance, growth, and renewal.  Psalm 103; Psalm 51.

The apostle Paul called himself a murderer.  He persecuted the new converts to this new religion called, The Way; the radical Christianity.  He stood at the stoning of Stephen and guarded the coats of those that participated, looking on with approval.  Many whom he persecuted died in prison.

I love Paul's sermon given on Mars Hill.  It's too long to quote here in full.  You can read it at Acts 17: 22-34.  This sermon demonstrates how an encounter with Jesus Christ had utterly and supernaturally changed Paul. (Acts 26: 14-18)

It concludes:
Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some began to sneer, but others said, "We shall hear you again concerning this."  So Paul went out of their midst.  But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them (Acts 17: 32-34).

When we share Christ, give our own personal story of redemption, we can expect each of these outcomes.  Some will sneer; some will consider and seeds will eventually sprout, and others will respond.  The work is not ours... we are merely called to be available to the Holy Spirit; faithful to the power of the message.  The exception are those with a spiritual gift of Evangelism who, like Paul, are just out there.  A church pulpit or a street corner, a prison or a college campus... It matters not.  Paul was a powerful evangelist.  A former pastor I worked under, Dr. Bill Bouknight, had this gift.  Any opening, any place, was an opportunity to share Christ.

Paul was a changed man.  He took the same risks that he had persecuted others for.  In many parts of our world faithful believers suffer for their faith.

Shane Lynch (Boyzone) had a tattoo of a broken crucifix over his heart as a symbol of his disdain of Christianity.  But Shane had a supernatural encounter with the risen Savior and was delivered of all the darkness that had threatened to swallow him.  Below is a link to this powerful interview.  I sent Shane's agent a copy of Wood's End, but of course I never heard back.  But I do want an Irish actor for the role of the Catholic priest.  If we ever get to make the film... no, when we make the film,  we'll explore that when the time comes.

For he rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins  (Colossians 1: 13.).
