WHEN PRAYER IS DELAYED - not what we think we need, but as Holy Spirit Change-Agents how God builds faith through prayer.

How will we respond as the Caustic Agent for change in keeping with God's will.  Some times that means we do nothing.  We let go and let God.

We are tempted to fight through our actions and desire to control.  But God wants us to contend in prayer... unleashing His power.  Contending in prayer is not that we are giving up, but that Jesus Christ can open new doors while bringing others into the fray better equipped to function in a way beyond our human ability and skill-set.  I've been praying so long for change in the life of my addicted husband that I'm lately weary and discouraged.

So it was nice and yes, even providential, that I talked with an old friend this morning, Pastor Larry Brown. Larry and his wife Toni ministered with me some years back at a homeless mission in Memphis. When Larry asked about my loved one I told him the sad unvarnished truth. The prayer he shared breathed fresh life into my own prayer life. Balancing my wishes for my loved one with the absolute necessity to disengage with love has often been a struggle. And yet, doing so has been necessary if I was ever going to unmask the lie of my own victim status and then separate all that bitter disappointment from the hijacked "love" I claimed to feel for this person. Speaking for myself, telling myself the truth of what I know from God's word and then embracing that reality is a perpetual challenge.

Our very salvation, having stepped from darkness to light, from the dominion of Satan to God, demands that we overcome this weariness, this seductive invitation to give up, casting out and off the notion that all is hopeless. Having been transferred to the kingdom of Light by faith we stand in the power of His Spirit working through us. If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8: 31b)

Our prayers are a powerful and cleansing force. In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and He heard me (Psalm 120: 1). He shall call upon me and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him (Psalm 91: 15).

I prayed this morning that God would rebuild the walls of righteousness where the enemy has breached the fortifications in my loved ones life. For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2nd Timothy 1: 7).

I prayed that there would be no joy in sinning. That the bondage of life consuming behavior would be cast out and off by the Almighty power of God; in the name of Jesus Christ. And then I came upon this verse. I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn't have to destroy the land, but I found no one. So now I will pour out my full penalty for all their sins, says the Sovereign Lord (Ezekiel 22: 30, 31).

And I said, "Here I am Lord, look at me, for I'm down here and I'm still praying for my loved one; the one that you love even more and with perfect caring grace. So hold off on a judgment that takes life and restore ____ to truth and sanity."

I'm sure God is often amused by my dialogue. Of course He knows I'm praying. Before a word is off my tongue He knows it all. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord (Psalm 139: 4).

At times it's been really hard. I've struggled not to turn away in bitterness, not to decide it's all just too painful to keep hope alive, praying and seeing no change. A byproduct of God placing us in an utterly helpless position often results in our greater awareness that we are truly powerless. We cannot control and bargain. We must turn to our Savior for the miraculous outcome of rescue, health, and healing that only He can provide. Our pleas, co-mingled with the fruit of an utter dependence on God, is a powerful supernatural force. How wonderful that we can give ourselves a break when our will proves inadequate, when conflicts are too great an obstacle, and disappointment or loss too deep a wound for us alone to shoulder. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55: 22).

Some time ago Jesus reminded me that each day my loved one lives is an open invitation to turn back, to call on Him for help. The above passage from Ezekiel and the timely prayer of a friend has encouraged me to stand in the gap of that broken wall for as long as it takes. To pray warfare against the enemy shredding the walls around my loved ones heart; seeking destruction, death, and ruin. I pray instead for life and rescue, grace and love, for the warrior flutter of angels wings to be in victorious assault, faithful attendance, at the Sovereign command and call of Jesus Christ.

And I wonder. Has my loved one remembered how to pray and assuming not, well then... my prayers are all the more vital. I must not give up. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: For thou, Lord has not forsaken them that seek thee (Psalm 9: 10).

THANK YOU JESUS IN ADVANCE FOR WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO DO.

For I know that time is short. I know that... For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God...(Romans 8: 28a).
