MORPH A LIE INTO A TRUTH? SOME TRY...

I had a very nice book signing in the Covington area on Monday night. I have another book signing on Saturday in Memphis and an upcoming coffee and book signing in the Pickwicke area. I hope to be visiting Mountain Home, Arkansas soon if logistics can be worked out. So, I'm a little nervous waiting for a late shipment of books to arrive.

It's been a wonderful blessing to have so much positive feed back about the book. For this reason I felt a little ambushed when a friend told me she couldn't recommend WOODS END because it was too violent. On the other hand she told me it was well written and she took the time to "finish it." Violence?  There is a murder and crime to solve.  The physical details are described via the crime scene as Jared and his partner interact with the self absorbed, egotistical Dr. Dudley Wodsende.

"Why not?  I would think that would help?" said the person who would normally be their prime suspect if Andrea had not already confessed. The two detectives were clearly disappointed. They had taken an instant dislike to Dr. Wodsende and didn't want to pursue other possibilities so soon. Woods End; page 91.

It's hard to imagine how one would omit any violence, while writing about a Biblical time period that precedes the events in Revelation. Revelation (last days) are described in scripture as so horrible that if the time hadn't been compassionately shortened by God, all life on earth would have been destroyed. Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short (Matthew 24: 22).

Denial of their tenuous circumstances brought on largely by the worship of false Gods, and a general lack of reverence for Jehovah among the religious authorities of the day, evokes a very similar climate to our own. Although the divided kingdom of Judah and Israel had just been invaded, still the political and religious leaders, on the eve of the brutal Assyrian conquest, told the prophet Micah: "Don't Prophesy like that. Such disasters will never come our way" (Micah 2: 6).

Why, you might ask, does God allow war and suffering? Why make a people He had claimed for Himself suffer? The fact is there is an undeniable correlation between sin and consequences. God could not be sovereign and fail to constrain and correct a corporate falling away of a people whom He created and loved.

Today, few mainstream denominations are instructing on Prophetic events; having stripped the miracles and mysteries from ministry. This failure has left too many ill equipped. Untold numbers of wonderful Christian people are now denied the opportunity to be relevant in their times; impacting a culture and a society for Christ during one of the most compelling and pivotal periods of Christian history.

Stripping away the facade, what I felt I really heard from my friend was this. Don't talk about such a time. Don't talk about the supernatural and preternatural battles in this unseen realm whose violence absolutely impacts both personal and world history. Angels and demons, end times, the antichrist, and Jesus Christ; our Holy and Righteous God - allowing the judgment described in Revelation. It's all so uncomfortable to consider that people can be evil. I'd rather morph a lie into the truth, believing that all people are inherently good despite what scripture says. So don't talk about it, someone might actually take you seriously and I don't want to be seen as condoning such craziness. Okay, my friend, call me crazy. I'm in good company.

In response to my face book posting, another friend emailed me the following. "I'm surprised this friend you mention used the word "violent." Perhaps the word "malevolent" would have been more appropriate." She went on to write in her email. "And some people are put off by this kind of malevolence. They don't want to know about the spiritual battle going on around us - much the same as they don't want to associate with people who have bad things happen to them. Afraid it will rub off somehow - that it's contagious."

And this, I guess, is the last taboo. It's not polite to consider that corporate evil exists. That this counter-force for all that is bad can and does work through the actions of individuals. Of course we have historical precedent for such toxic denial. Nearly an entire country denied the evidence before them as Adolf Hitler rose to power. We sometimes forget that Germany was revered for their intellectual sophistication, the arts and sciences, their military, and educational institutions. We would not think that such a nation would lack the moral resolve to recognize corporate evil when it came knocking at the doors of government with that first insidious assault of radical nationalism. For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will set aside" (1st Corinthians 1: 18, 19.)

It's not for me or you to assert much about end times. The great I Am, Jesus Christ, Jehovah-God has said so and I merely articulate, however poorly, the message to which I'm called. This coming holocaust, under the control of antichrist, will reap world-wide devastation. (Revelation; Isaiah 24; Matthew 24, 25, Daniel 9; just to name a few references.) Scott Peck described the process by which we, as fragile human beings, succumb to a massive denial of toxic behavior in his very readable and compelling book, "People of the Lie."

He is the Potter, and He is certainly greater than you. You are only the jars he makes! Should the thing that was created say to the one who made it, "He didn't make us? Does a jar ever say, "the potter who made me is stupid?" Read the entire passage; Isaiah 29: 9-16

By the way... Revelation is the only book in the Bible that promises a special blessing. Scripture says that if you read these pages from beginning to end you will receive this blessing. It doesn't say you have to read it and fully understand it. We don't become a student of Bible Prophecy overnight and I certainly don't consider myself an expert on this topic.

I leave you with one more verse. God loves us and requires from us a simple faith in His ability to keep us for His purposes. On the eve of this horrible invasion by a brutal people, Micah reminded the Hebrew people: He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6: 8).
