LYING SPIRITS: NOT EVERY VOICE IN YOUR HEAD IS ENTIRELY YOUR OWN

Do you sometimes have a wayward thought, radical and demeaning? Do you wonder where a certain image or inclination came from? Do you question how this temptation popped uninvited into your mind; perhaps triggered visually or by the reaction of another person toward you? Your first inclination may be, "that's not me!" Surprised and diminished, enticed or aroused you may assert to yourself that this particular thought, an invitation to temptation, in no way reflects the person you've worked and strive to be.

In the prayer that Jesus modeled for us we read: ...and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. We are told that our spirit may be willing, but the flesh is weak. Even Jesus was tempted and modeled for us how we should react when tempted, speaking in His Father's name, quoting God's word as weapons against such attacks. Today we stand in the power of the cross, under the blood of salvation and proclaim the name of Jesus. ...the name wh…

ADDICTION IN THE FAMILY: You didn't cause it! You can't control it! You can't cure it!

Note the date on this early blog.  Today I'm in a very different place.  I still grieve for the loss of a husband via addiction.  This could be a spouse, friend or a child; what we suffer because we love is what we cannot, as human beings, escape.  The key for me was to disengage in love.  A practice I had to learn and needed help with. CS Lewis wrote: "There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every second is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan."  Even as you disengage emotionally and perhaps physically... Engage fully in intercessory prayer.  Now begins this blog written in 2010.  I value your comments and the emails I receive.  Feel free to communicate.

I know I'm not the only person who has experienced addiction in a loved one. And there is no point in moralizing. Alcoholism is clearly a disease, both progressive and chronic and most addicts today (perhaps always) are dual addicted.

As I walk through this I have to go back to the fi…

HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD

I've been reading the Chronological Bible. Brett gave it to me for my birthday in 2002.  I love books and treasure the inscriptions that people write. I'm glad to say that two of my children love to read; treasuring books and keeping one going at all times.
So... the heading for today in the Chronological Bible is June 10th and clearly this is mid-January, but I wanted to read and be better informed about the events of 1st and 2nd Chronicles and 1st and 2nd Kings; reading these books simultaneously. I also choose to resist the legalism that structures my time with the Lord and saps it of intimacy, so I almost never keep up with prescribed readings that for me, inhibit the Holy Spirit. I'm not saying that this principal holds true for all my brothers and sisters, but if you feel defeated because you're not keeping up with certain readings on certain dates I suggest you find a system that draws your heart closer to Jesus. Just don't give up because there is no "…

THE HOMING DEVICE THAT DRAWS US TO GOD... God planted it; we have it!

He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of man (Ecclesiastes 3: 11).

This longing for things eternal, for God ordered significance and purpose, is motivated by a hungering void that desires, as the great imperative of the human condition, to be filled. The Holy Spirit is the gift God gives us at the time of conversion. When we have the Holy Spirit, we are forever sealed in eternity as belonging to Jesus Christ.
With self as the center of our universe, we are essentially at war with the injustice of an existence where everything comes to an end, and little seems fair and right. This endless striving is the impetus that inspires every soul to seek answers. And since God is truth and there is only one God, too many will miss the great and glorious prize offered to all persons through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Read Romans chapter eight) On a deep and primal level of cognition we recognize that we have been launched on this pr…
