Satan can not create and is not creative.  As a created being all satan can do is imitate.  This fallen creature, once a beautiful cherub, is singularly focused on perverting the creation which God fixed when he formed man from the dust of the earth.  Just as satan was a visible and tangible presence to Adam and Eve, there was a time when some demons had that same physicality in the presence of man. These demons are called Nephilim. Scripture tells us that they procreated with human women. A hybrid, subset of creation came from that union. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them.  Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown (Genesis 6: 4).

We can not fully grasp what a serious affront this was to God unless we view the consequence that followed. Read the account of The Flood / Genesis: chapters 6-9.

So who were these Mighty Men of Old, Nephilim, Men of renown?  They should be better understood as genetic hybrids of infamy.  In our culture we view "renown" or fame as a good thing, but here the word is used as a scandal; horrendous evidence that brought shame and destruction.  At some point, 'afterwards' they raped the daughters of men. There are ten generations between Adam and Eve to that of Noah (Genesis 5: 28, 29). The time period spoken of in scripture, a time when people lived longer than they do today, would comprise these ten generations.

Some say the Nephilim were aliens; a fallen host of created beings from another planet. I certainly think God likely did create other worlds, but that would be a blog for a different time. Most scholars believe they were demons; fallen angels.  Since angels are spirit and lack physicality they could conceivably have been an alien race fatally possessed by and under the control of powerful demons.  The term alien, as in toxic to man is applicable.  A telling verse comes from The Wisdom of Solomon which is part of the Apocryphal.  For even in the beginning, when arrogant giants were perishing, the hope of the world took refuge on a raft, and guided by Your hand left to the world the seed of a new generation.  For blessed is the wood by which righteousness comes (Song of Solomon 14: 6, 7).  I love this last... blessed is the wood by which righteousness comes; a clear prophetic reference to Jesus Christ's sacrificial death on the cross that we might live juxtaposed with Noah's desperate escape; carrying the seed of creation from which the Savior of the world would be born by the Virgin Mary.  And from whom we are all descended.  Does God have a plan?  Praise Him!  Without doubt, He does!

The fact is that God doesn't tell us everything.  What we can safely surmise is this:  Since God created angels as sexless beings, and demons are fallen angels, this would be a species of demon, different from others. Some documents refer to the Nephilim as "the watchers." This description fits with what we know of demons and it also fits with how many regard alien visitations.  In any case, babies were born and did survive. As these children grew up they also raped and defiled women so that succeeding generations, though very large, would begin to look more and more human. The issue of these unions were corrupt and violent and would have been organized as appropriate for warfare, just as demons are today. The ultimate agenda was to take over the race God created... the race of men and women.  These Nephilim certainly had power and strength that reflected that of Satan.

We are not given much detail, although we do know that the mingling of what was never meant to be joined, became a very real threat to the survival of the human race. It is interesting that when Christ warns of the end times, he tells us that these days will resemble the days of Noah. And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all (Luke 17: 26, 27).

We must ask, what happened in the days of Noah to distinguish that time from other epochs? The single most striking aspect of Noah's time was this monumental threat to the gene pool.  This threat was so offensive to God that he wiped out everything... the first world-wide judgment.  The only other time when God will act with such corporate wrath... ending the world as we know it, is described in the book of Revelation.

A characteristic of our makeup as human beings is this ability to adapt as we seek to cope (tools given to us by God). Even as violence increased life retained an aspect of normalcy under this horrible warfare perpetrated on mankind by the Nephilim.  Daily activity retained a facade of normalcy.  For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.  For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Norah entered the ark (Matthew 24: 37, 38).
Last Days: Matthew chapters 24, 25; Mark 13: Luke 17: 22-37; Luke 21: 10-28; The book of Revelation. In another blog I'll write about the current threat to the gene pool.

Now we need to tie this together.  We'll do so by looking at a certain prophecy in Daniel.

God gave Daniel a prophetic interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream (Daniel 2). "You, O king, were looking and behold, there was a single great statue; that statue, which was large and of extraordinary splendor, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was awesome" (Daniel 2: 31). Various parts of the statue were made of gold, silver, bronze, and iron.  Each part depicted a powerful kingdom having sway and control over the known world during a specific time in history.

The last description of this last kingdom to have world-wide dominance over the entire earth is described as: the feet of iron mixed with clay.  In these words we have the key to understanding an important sign that distinguishes End Times Bible Prophecy juxtaposed with the only other time when God visited judgment upon the entire earth and everything in it - The Flood.   Despising man as the reason God came to rescue the lost; satan is hell-bent on stealing men and women as prizes of war.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life; and have it abundantly (John 10: 10).  Just as in the days of Noah, satan seeks the death of soul and, that not withstanding; to pervert the creation. The ultimate evil agenda is to have power and control over the DNA, the seed of man.

How do we know this.  We know because in the character of satan described in the book of Ezekiel we read that satan's sin was a desire to be God; to set himself up as God.  (Ezekiel 28: 11-19)

This abominable threat will have its full realization when the Antichrist comes to power. The rapture will have taken place and the restraint currently posed by those who have been saved by Christ and who have within them the working power of God (The Holy Spirit) will be ripped away. Just as this former war upon the gene pool in the days of Noah ushered in The Flood; this same assault will result in another horrible perversion of God's creation.  As we look for the sign of Noah as a sign that tells us that the events in Revelation are immanent we must also ask if mankind has the capacity to pervert God's masterpiece... the genetic makeup, the unique and marvelous stamp of our potential to house the Holy Spirit within our souls.  Satan's modus operandi, as the father of lies; a criminal by whose actions we recognize a behavioral signature, cannot create and is not creative.

The mark of the beast will have something to do with people being set up for this process of interfering with man as a biological creation of God. The buying and selling rationale will be the vehicle that draws us in.  That true believers will not be controlled will enrage the antichrist leader. Daniel's prophetic dream speaks of this. Today, in our day, science has caught up with prophecy.  And, as always we have the option of using our gifts to glorify God or to glorify ourselves.  What will our behavioral signature reflect?  Will it selflessly reflect the Judeo-Christian ethic or will we reflect our fallen state; that of playing God; wanting to be God to a destructive end.

Knowing all this we can read these words from the New American Standard translation with greater insight. Our understanding is informed by the scientific advancements of our time. And in that you saw the iron mixed with common clay, they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with pottery (Daniel 2: 43).

If we imagine that this work is not underway, funded by secret foundations and despotic governments, we are giving in to a satanically inspired deluded state; invited to be the passive facilitators, a role none of us want to be judged on... For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad (2nd Corinthians 5: 10).

And thus we have this important singular sign; a sign unique only to this earlier time prior to The Flood. The increase in knowledge juxtaposed with man's sinful proclivity to play at being a god sets the stage for the other world-wide-judgement, the seven year tribulation. Scripture tells of another time when men and women, as instruments circumvented by demonic control, attempted to disrupt God's predetermined time-table for planet earth and its inhabitants. The increase of knowledge that allowed man access to power God has wisely kept from us is the issue.  God slowed knowledge by destroying the Tower of Babel and the city built up around it.  He accomplished this by dividing man through culture and language; slowing the accumulation of knowledge (read Genesis 11: 1-9).

Now I'm not saying that knowledge and education is bad.  Far from it.  satan also worked to keep the Bible from early Christians during the dark ages.  People have and do suffer horribly.  At various times life span was tragically short and still is today in some parts of the world.  Our ancient enemy hates the written word; hates free will and opposes man's capacity to self-determine a course of action; gifts god-given.  Left to our own will, human beings do not evolve into becoming better creatures. Relatively recent history was World War 11 and the example of Adolph Hitler as an antichrist thrust on the world stage before its time, but not allowed world dominance by a holy, righteous God.  Under Hitler there was a massive thrust to manipulate God's creation via the horrendous abuse of biological re- engineering. Some of what medical science has discovered today is derived from that godless research allowed unbridled scope during that shameful time.  In fact, some of those scientist, former Nazi's, were protected by a secret agency within the United States and brought to this country to continue both the biological and warfare research.  This fact isn't up for debate since it is well founded, documented, and understood today.

Some knowledge opens the door to occult control and bondage and is demonically conveyed.  That we have within our reach the capacity to manipulate God's creation is more power than man can sustain without there being horrible abuse. We see the fictional metaphor for this in the works written by, J.R.R. Tolkien / the ring which Bilbo discovers and represents an overwhelming temptation to those around him.  It also represented a personal threat to Bilbo the Hobbit as the bearer of that ring.  The exercise of knowledge without regard for God, nor for the long term welfare of man is heady and dangerous power which communicates, in the seeds of that capacity and potential the message that man can be on a level with God the Father; can be God.  Overwhelming temptation to most men.  On the one hand we'll identify ways to cure inherited illness - on the other hand an Antichrist system will decide to remake man; already going on through bio-medical research that is uncensored and rarely acknowledged, through programming and attempts at mind control.  The coming anti-Christ of revelation fame will need this confluence of weapons in order to gain world wide control of the masses.  While the church sleeps and the rise of paganism is growing this assault is going on today and is many pronged.   This makes us wonder how much of the tribulation we will actually see and experience.  What we believe about the actual time of Christ's return is not an essential core belief of faith and is something we can safely differ on as we delve into His word.  My friends Melba Kinnin and Ryan McCrillis, both believe we will go through the events described in Revelation. My pastor, Arnold Roberts does not and my Catholic friends seem the least interested in this topic.  What I do think is that current events challenge some opinions and this is a worthwhile discussion to have.

When God destroyed the city and Tower of Babel He said:   The Lord said, "Behold they are one people and they all have the same language.  And this is what they began to do and now nothing they purpose to do will be impossible for them" (Genesis 11: 6).  Man left to his own devises, playing at god, opposes and is an affront to the one true sovereign God of Creation.  We are not smarter or wiser than Him.

We now live in a time when God's creation; the DNA of human-kind can be manipulated. We already see these attempts in cloning and the combining of genetics with robotics (clay and iron). The clay is a picture of us as fragile creations of God.  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not of ourselves (2nd Corinthians 4: 7). Once more the possibilities regarding this threat from the days of Noah are upon us and, just as before, just as scripture warns, will usher in another world-wide-judgment.

In the book of Exodus God calls Himself loving and kind, slow to anger. And yet He goes on to say that He will not withhold His anger forever and that, the consequence of persistent patterns of sin, would negatively impact children to the third and fourth generation. Read Exodus 24: 6-7.

In the days of Noah, just as now, God allowed this horrible perversion of His creation a certain license to continue, but only so long. We do not read of a corporate calling out to God to be rescued, nor for God to intervene. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (Genesis 6: 5).

Noah and his family became the conduit from which succeeding generations would emerge. He is called by God, "perfect in his generation," meaning that Noah's bloodline, and that of his family, were Nephilim-free. We're also told that Noah found favor in the eyes of God; he remained obedient to God even as the culture around him fell away. In this obedience Noah had God's divine protection and this protection extended to his loved ones.

For even in the beginning, when arrogant giants were perishing, the hope of the world took refuge on a raft, and guided by Your hand left to the world the seed of a new generation.  For blessed is the wood by which righteousness comes (The Wisdom of Solomon 13: 6, 7).  This last a prophetic reference to the cross.

In direct proportion to the number of persons infected by the Nephilim, evil incrementally increased. Now that the Nephilim have produced children they are a race, "devouring" the people with the purpose of making extinct every human in the direct line of Adam and Eve. Their growing number and their violence threatened God's divine plan for creation; not only for planet-earth, but for the universe. Through a direct line of descent the Messiah, the Savior of the World would come. Though Satan keeps trying to mess with God's predetermined time table, the fact is that what God ordains can never, ever fail. Satan failed to destroy the bloodline from whom Jesus Christ was born. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3: 16).

The Nephilim are also mentioned in the book of numbers. The Hebrew people were about to invade the land promised to Abraham and his descendants; read Genesis 17: 1-5. A scouting party returned to camp fearful of this daunting task. Some made a "bad report," to Moses, spreading a rumor that the Anak, who are a real people living in the land, are descendants of the Nephilim. What is striking about this is how present this fear of the Nephilim still were to a people now safely separated from the destruction of The Flood by many generations.

Noah and his family were first hand witnesses of the destruction visited by the satanic Nephilim.  The history of this holocaust was passed on from family to family so that by the time we come to the Exodus, and the people claiming the promised land, this fear is revisited; a very present threat in the minds and memory of the people. This warning comes down to us as the inspired word of God; holy and true.  A study of the Nephilim isn't complete without reading the Book of Enoch, which is quoted in the New Testament.  This writing influenced early Jews and we know that fragments of this book were found among the dead sea scrolls, meaning that it was seriously studied by Hebrew religious leaders, prior to New Testament events.  A really good translation is by, Joseph B. Lumpkin; Lost Books of the Bible: Great Rejected Texts /  published by, Fifth Estate, Alabama, USA.  Perhaps nearly all of these books were rightly rejected, but I'm not so sure about the Book of Enoch, which was not available at the time for consideration.  So, if we read this book as actually inspired or not, isn't the point.  It's worth study on many levels.

We would be wise to weigh human history, where we are in prophetic-Revelation events - in the light of man's potential to see a similar destruction; the single most significant harbinger of world-wide judgment; manipulation of the gene pool.  This sin of playing God will see persons under the operational control of satan in making this a reality.  The consequence is World's End - a coming and certain event in the prophetic fate of planet earth and all who dwell there-in.  Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves (Matthew 10: 16).

The Hebrew people believed the reports of the Nephilim. They considered Enoch as sealed by God to the extent that he would not be corrupted by evil and was "taken" meaning that he did not experience death / Genesis 5: 22, 29. We don't have a list of the possessions that Noah took with him on the Ark, but it makes sense that he would have packed personal items as well as important records and thus we would have the Book of Enoch; though not, of course, the original. The reality of the Nephilim remained a fresh threat in the mind of the Hebrew people and the book of Enoch contains information that Noah would have relied on in keeping his family safe.  Interesting that today, with this same threat to the gene pool as a harbinger of world wide judgment, we once more have the Book of Enoch for those that would be led to read it.  It is not a matter that can be disputed that the New Testament writers, educated Jews, considered the Book of Enoch to be inspired.  It is quoted in Luke 3: 37; Hebrews 11: 5; Jude 1: 14, 15.

The Nephilim were an alien race / not originally created for earth.  They were squatters in the land. They were invaders.  When the Hebrews were fearful of venturing into new territory and claiming the promised land for themselves they used the Nephilim as the excuse to remain stagnant.

So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "the land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size (Numbers 13: 32). Out of fear they reached for the greatest threat imaginable, straight from their own recorded history / The prophetic account of Enoch. They assigned the people they were told to invade super-human / preternatural attributes which are later debunked by Calab and by the successful invasion of the land. There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight (Numbers 13: 33).

It is important to make a clear distinction between the people that occupied the promised land, prior to Joshua's invasion, and the Nephilim. Scripture is speaking of a race of giants. These are not the Nephilim, all of whom were destroyed in the flood.  And yet, the "bad report" is floated about in order to build fear.  This kind of fear is too often used to manipulate believers and is never from God.  The prophet Amos clears up this question of the Amorites as descendants of the Nephilim and answers the question of whether they are still with us today.  Amos's ministry began during the reigns of King Uzziah of Judah and King Jeroboam 11, of Israel. As a prophet Amos speaks truthful words inspired by the Holy Spirit. He is quoting God directly when he says: Yet think of all I did for my people! I destroyed the Amorites before my people arrived in the land. The Amorites were as tall as cedar trees and strong as oaks, but I destroyed their fruit and dug out their roots (Amos 2: 9).  These giants were human.   They were not these same alien invaders known as the Nephilim.

The Nephilim are considered by most biblical scholars (both Hebrew and Christian) to be a race of giant demigods. They are the result of this unnatural union between mortal women and "the sons of God."  Some say demons and some say aliens... or created beings from another planet.  The corruption of the gene pool was such a serious infraction of God's order that a world-wide judgment, in the form of The Flood, followed. For our purposes, advances in science, only inform the Biblical record. What scholars rejected fifty years ago must be looked at today in light of that evidence. It's always important to follow where the evidence leads since scripture, later supported by the scientific record, has always been well ahead of us.

We read that some demons are so powerful and dangerous to man that they are locked up. The following verse is telling. And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day, just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire (Jude 6, 7).

The term, "did not keep their own domain," is a New Testament reference to the Nephilim.  We are told that some very powerful demons, especially toxic to the human race and currently under lock and key, will be released during the time of satan's brief reign, foretold in the book of Revelation.

The literal descendants of the Nephilim were destroyed in the flood. None survived.  All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind (Genesis 7: 21). While not telling us everything, the Bible does tell us all we need. When we get to heaven we'll know, "the rest of the story."

So, just to be clear... The descendants of these unions between demons and women do not exist today. While this is interesting fodder for a work in fiction, we, as God's creation, do not carry any of that genetic imprint that came as a result of cohabitation between demons and human flesh. It is quite overwhelming enough that we have original sin to contend with. And yet, God in His goodness, has made a way of escape. Therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death (Romans 8: 1, 2). See John 3: 16; Romans 10: 9-11.

At the time that God called Noah to build the ark the wickedness of that time was so great that God's wrath was provoked and a world-wide judgement followed. A loving God could do no less. Then God said to Noah, the end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth (Genesis 5: 13).

In other words the earth was so polluted by the presence of the Nephilim, and the subsequent degradation of man that God would destroy everything, with the single exception of Noah and his family. God was preserving the purity of the DNA from which future generations would come, as well as that of the animals He'd created and lovingly allowed Adam to name. In a baptism of judgment the whole of the earth would be washed clear of the Nephilim.
The life miracle of this DNA facilitated Jesus Christ being fully human, while still being fully God.  This was a divine plan and no weapon formed against it would stand.  From Adam to Noah, from David to the virgin Mary, a line of descent was protected, and carefully recorded, from which the Messiah was born.  At that perfectly appointed hour, and despite every effort to stop this singular event from taking place, Jesus Christ, the eternal Savior of the world arrived in human form amidst a chorus of heavenly angels rejoicing.  Praise God!  (Matthew 1)

  1. Thank you for an interesting post on an intriguing subject.

  2. Thank you, John. The blog is so new that it's fun to hear from someone besides nonobjective friends and family. Blessings. Alex

  3. A very interesting subject indeed. Can i ask where you think the Creator was while "God" was dealing with Man? Was the Creator, not on his day of rest? And nothing will disturb him.He went on his day of rest satisfied at leaving "Everything" Perfect. There were no "Instructions" necessary. "God" introduced instructions?. Adam refused these instructions? After listening to "The Serpent". (was he being as wise as a Serpent?) From this... one can see that there are three beings superior to man being discussed in Genesis.
