As I begin to write this I want to say that one of the best books I've read on healing is "Healing" by, Francis MacNutt.  A very good friend of mine recently passed away at a young age.  It was difficult to reconcile this since he was such a good person and there seemed to be so much in life he wanted to accomplish.  We just don't have all the answers and this is where we must trust Jesus.  I don't ever want people to read what I've written below and get the idea that people die because they don't have enough faith.  Lots of factors come into play, including the fact that this world is essentially lost and at a certain juncture transitioning to heaven is God's will for His children. On the other hand we know that we can pray to extend our lives and that Jesus worked many miracles of healing that did so.  David prayed and fasted for his infant son to be healed until that moment that God took this newborn baby home. While this child lived there was every reason to pray for healing and for the faith to sustain those prayers.

We see now in a cloudy mirror and we trust in His promises of Heaven, our eventual home. As I begin we should not forget that Job was sick.  God allowed this illness which built his faith.  Job is a book many avoid reading, but it is full of wisdom and insight into the mind of God.  There is a point that we accept that God is calling us home and in the last illness there is marvelous opportunity to live out our faith in ways that impact those we love.  As we approach this topic balance is needed as we seek understanding for what God is doing.

Before He went to the cross Jesus Christ assured his disciples that He would not leave them as orphans. He hasn't left us, you and I, as orphans. Every Christian denomination I've worked with has some people called to the spiritual gift of Healing.  Jesus plants His bond-servants where He needs them. In the midst of warfare, in unlikely places, in preparation for a surprising task unpredictable and seemingly random.  All Christians can pray for healing.  Too often, not until we, or someone we love, are actually sick do we begin to understand a need for such prayer.

It isn't God's will that we accept physical illness.  In deliverance we pray against harmful carrier elements that make us sick like virus and cancer.  Often these elements are used by demons and sent our way as oppositional aspects of warfare.  If Holy Spirit carriers are sick they aren't fully operational; on the field of battle, fulfilling a holy calling.  Since freedom from evil spirits and healing is very much tied together as one ministry we are compromising the power we can have in prayer for healing when we forget this connection.

When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the Spirits with a word and healed all who were ill. This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: "He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases." (Matthew 8: 16, 17).

People that experience healing also experience deliverance.  People delivered from evil spirits setting up in their flesh, may additionally experience a physical healing that wasn't exactly asked for.  Addiction may start out as a temptation, but then causes brain changes.  The brain is sick and no longer operates as God designed the human body.  The cravings are evidence of physical disease.  Addiction may also have  a generational, inherited component.  Some people are physically sick because they have unconfessed sin in their lives.  Before the physical healing comes, a separation from the physical disease, there must be a confession of sin and true repentance.

So we see how all this ties together.  When we pray for people to be healed of physical disease we pray against what we may also discern in terms of the larger picture.  Those who are physically sick with a disease are vulnerable to depression.  Sometimes we don't have the faith to believe that God can divinely and miraculously heal us.  He can!  He said, "I will."  If we struggle with not having enough faith the answer is to delve into the Bible; praying His word and His promises and with an open heart to hear directly from Him.

When you pray healing, also pray deliverance.  Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents, and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you (Luke 10: 19).

If you are physically sick reject the idea that God has made you sick. Just as He never tempts us, He also doesn't confer disease. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven (Matthew 16: 19).  Sometimes I forget this.  My friend Ryan and I talked recently and he told me he had been shoveling snow and had hurt his back.  I suggested he take some medication.  When I talked to him a week later I asked how he was feeling.  He recounted that he went to church and asked his friends to lay hands on him and pray for him.  A few days later another snow storm hit Kansas City where he lives.  Once more he was out shoveling snow.  Prayer needs to be our first thought for healing.

There is an appointed time when, as believers, we will all pass on to glory.  We'll move from being aliens on planet earth to being in heaven; the home to which we were transferred when we first trusted in Jesus Christ for our salvation.  John recounts Jesus' saying the following: Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word he will never see death (John 8: 51).  Jesus also said: Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.  Do you believe this?  She said to Him, "Yes Lord; I have believed that You, are the Christ, the Son of God, even He who comes into the world (John 11: 25-27).

It is because of the monumental event of the cross that our world changed forever.  The movie, The Passion of the Christ, is worth watching more than once.  This concept of Christ abolishing death through faith in Him is what we stand on when we pray for physical healing.  Pray that God would bless you with divine health until that day that he calls you home to heaven.  Offer to pray healing for those around you that are sick.

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to the light through the gospel (2nd Timothy 1: 8-10).

There is an appointed time when we will pass on to be in God's presence in heaven.  Deliverance, warfare/healing prayer does however very much impact how we live out our days as aliens on planet earth.  So why would we think healing is outside the will of God for us?  Why do we so willingly accept the word curses that cement a physical illness?  Build your faith and pray for, not only your own health, but also divine healing for those around you that are suffering.  Is any among you sick?  Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up and if he has committed sins they will be forgiven him (James 5: 14, 15).  This verse instructs the faithful on how to conduct a healing.  Notice the phrase "then he must," and "they are to."  These are affirmative statements telling us what to do.  Notice also the connection between sins and the need for healing.  Those conducting a healing must invite the person that is physically sick to confess their sins.  Repentance opens the door for restored fellowship with Jesus; allowing an outpouring of Holy Spirit power.  Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed.  The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. (James 5: 16).

Faith!  Oh, where would we be without Jesus? For myself I know the answer.  I would have died long ago, but in his very great pleasure He kept me alive on earth so that I could serve Him in trials, in joy; in suffering, in victory.  Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.  Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.  If you love me you will keep My commandments (John 14: 12-15).
Some people have a special calling and gift of healing.  People with this gift also have a gift of mercy.  Healing is very much a form of deliverance.  Deliverance from those harmful carrier elements used by satan to plant disease in our flesh.  If you attend a church that has no vision for healing find another.
